PORT LINCOLN

Helloooo out there

So last week I was invited to go to Port Lincoln with my good friend from work, Tanika, her sister (Tegan) and her sister's fiance (James). We left on sunday early afternoon, since it takes about 8 hours of driving to get there, and me and Tanika slept pretty much the whole way since we had work saturday night.
We arrived at the place we were staying late at night, which was a house belonging to a family friend of theirs. It hadn't been in use for 4 years, and we soon discovered our first "crap....". We didn't bring any sheets or blankets for our beds (thats means me and Tanika didn't), and all we had was mattresses. It was really cold as well, and we ended up sharing a sleeping bag and two towels to keep warm during the night (we were still freezing haha). Dinner that night was a lovely chocolate cake and grapes, and we screwed up the healthy diet we were supposed to be on, but oooooh well.

Monday we had a beach day, since the weather was awesome (30 degrees). We went into Port Lincoln (the house was about 15 km away from there), got groceries and everything we needed and headed to the beach, which we had all by ourselves - niiiiice. We then had an awesome lunch consisting of biscuits, cheese, fruit, salmon, salami etc. on the beach and spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sun, building sand castles and swimming. We then went back to the house to have a shower before going out squidding at dusk (catching squid). Buuuuuut, there was no hot water whatsoever, so it became more of a "Im just standing here next to the shower spraying a few drops on myself, jumping around gasping, and then pretended I had a shower" hahaha. At the mean time we had bought a quilt, so me and Tanika could stay a little warmer this night (it does get really cold at night time).
Then we were off to our squid adventure! Me and James had never done it before and were both really excited. The first few hours we didn't have any luck, but we did get company of a few dolphins and saw an amazing moon-rise (that's what I call it, since the moon literally rose from the horizon like the sun does - does that ever happen in Denmark? naaah). The water was so clear that you could see all the fish swimming around down there, and me and James had both our tries to throw the fishing line (mind me, I almost caught Tanika while trying, so I left it to the professionals). THEN Tegan shouts "I CAUGHT SOMETHING!", and sure enough she had something on the line. At this point me and James were bursting with excitement, and when Tanika and Tegan tells us to step back, because the squid will ink all over the place, we both turned around and ran half way down the jetty screaming. James is convinced it was a Scandinavian thing since he is half swedish haha.
After a while Tegan caught another one, and James and I spend the times poking the squid, seeing them change colour and screaming hysterically whenever they moved. It was so much fun. We didn't catch any more, but Tegan cleaned the two we had so we could cook them and eat them the next day (we never got to it though, and had to throw them out). After all the squidding was such a fun experience!

Tuesday the weather turned really bad (cold), and we went into Port Lincoln to just take a look around the marina and such, and then meet up for lunch with Tanika and Tegan's grandpa. At night we had dinner with another family friend of theirs, so that was a really chill day. Wednesday Tegan and James left us at the house to go do something together and stay at a hotel over night. The weather was still pretty bad, but Tanika and I went for a walk/jog at the beach, and were freezing when we got back. It then started pouring down and we decided to fix the tv, since that was all we could really do - and we made it work! We watched a movie, and then at night guess what was on tv? "Borgen". Yes, we watched a Danish series on Australian tv, and I had the weirdest experience ever. The first 20 minutes of the show I had no idea what they were saying. I didn't understand any of the Danish, it just sounded like weird noises, and I totally understand how people that doesn't understand Danish now hear it. And I must admit, we do sound rather strange. Actually we sounds really really weird and not in any way graceful or nice haha. After about 20 minutes I got back into it though, and didn't have to read the subtitles any more.

Thursday we slept in and relaxed, and when Tegan and James came back we went to Tumby Bay (another small town) to have lunch. Thursday night we went to the local pub and had dinner with family friends of theirs and their grandpa. And then on friday morning we headed back to Adelaide, and again we slept the whole way, since we had work friday night.

The trip was really good, and I'm so glad that I went. I had so much fun, laughed a lot, and met some awesome people. I wish my entire stay could be made up of trips like that :-)

So let's see, what else have I been doing? Well I had work friday and saturday. And actually I had a couple of hours on sunday as well. (I may have just written this in the post before, but whatever).... Talked to mom and Katja, which was so good since I hadn't talked to them for two weeks. Miss them like crazy! :-) Sunday night I went to Tanikas for drinks, since it was her roommate Jay's birthday. Yesterday I met up with Jen in town, and went up here in the hills since I hadn't seen them for 4 weeks (!!). It was really good to see them again, I'm beginning to really miss that family feeling (probably because of christmas coming up), so it's really nice to be able to come up here and spend some time with the family here.
On a side though, I don't really feel like it's Christmas soon. It's so weird that it's getting warmer and warmer, everyone's talking about summer, but christmas is coming up? It doesn't make sense in my head haha, but I actually think it's quite a good thing. Since I don't feel like it's really christmas, I probably won't get as homesick either. But I do miss christmas back home, it's gonna be really weird not to have a "real" christmas at all haha :-)
But I get to spend it with my sister, which is the best thing ever! And I may have sorted out that we are going to Kangaroo Island from december 22nd to 27th, which would be really awesome! I'm so excited for it!

Right now I'm sitting in the shade outside in the hills just enjoying the weather. It's about 30 degrees, and just amazing. The nature up here is really nice as well, and I enjoy just coming here to relax once in a while. I'm glad we're coming into summer and all the really exciting stuff is beginning to happen. I'm trying to eat healthy and exercise a lot, since I've gained quite a lot since I got here (A LOT), and I actually don't feel very good about myself in that sense haha - but it's so hard to be on a diet! I last 2 days, and then I give up for two days, and then start again because I get mad at myself.. It's really not good to be that indecisive when on a diet haha!

Anyway, I hope everything's well back home, and that you're not freezing to death just yet!

Port Lincoln has a loooot of great white sharks, and you can actually go shark cage diving here! I really wanted to, but it's super expensive (500 dollars - ca. 2700 kr) :(
Our turtle sand castle! Or more like Tanika's, since she finished it up haha
So clear!
Our little dolphin friends!
The moon-rise haha
Caught the first squid!
Yummy, huh?
And a sea lion that wanted to say hi at the marina
The water is sooooo blue, it's crazy!
Our dinner most of the nights hehe
Around the property we stayed at - very beautiful :)
